BIRCH

A wood best used for cleansing rituals and expelling evil spirits. Birch is exemplary in healing and is excellent for protection spells. One of the first trees to naturally establish in cleared forest, birch is tied to spring, youth and all things new. A tree of new beginnings and establishments to what birch is linked by tradition.

Birch is closely aligned with the element of water, and is a symbol of rebirth, renewal, and diligence. Some use this wood to aid in the calming of emotions. Many European communities use or have used birch twigs to expel evil spirits (traditional besoms used birch twigs for the bristles). Some cultures utilize birch rods in rituals designed to drive out spirits of the old year.

Controlled by moon influences include: birth, lunar spells, healing, and protection.  Used in rituals that signify a new start of any endeavor. Known to pagans as the White Lady of the Woods (divine feminine energy), the birch tree represents rebirth and fertility.

Birch is a sacred tree of Celtic astrology: from 24th of December to 20th of January. The Celtic wood of the New Year and new beginnings. Brooms were traditionally made of birch twigs, and birch can help you sweep away negative energy, and organize and calm the emotions. The druids associated this wood with the white stag. The Celts believed that birch was the favorite tree of faeries and other mythical creatures.

Magical properties: cleansing, healing, rebirth, protection, blocking unwanted forces, creativity, leadership, loyalty, luck, wealth, will power, adaptability, inspiration, and fearlessness,  It also holds great ability to purify and for discipline. Healing depression and anxiety, renewal and new growth are also known attributes of birch.

Birch also gives the essence of truth.

The Birch wand is used in many cleansing rituals. Overall a positive wood, birch was  (and still is) considered to be a preferred wood by many in festivals/rituals/sabbaths. Birch will also carry a very deep spiritual side and help promote connectiveness in one's life, introspection and unblocking of energies.
